2020/21 Initiatives


Vision

The Emerald Village Committee has, as its vision for the future, a community that is represented by a vibrant and inclusive Committee that embraces all groups and the broad spectrum of community views and interests.


Mission

To communicate with Council and the community to protect and enhance the unique character of Emerald as a place of great natural beauty and a caring community where residents live and work in happiness and safety.


2020/21 Initiatives:

1a. To work with the Shire, the ward Councillors and other local organizations so that we are fully informed on issues and developments that effect Emerald. Currently we have a MOU with the council and will meet with the Shire’s CEO Carol Jeffs twice a year.

1b. To organize an annual inspection of main town areas to ensure the roads, footpaths, and stairs and toilet blocks meet the required standards.

2. To improve our links with the community.

A subcommittee of the EVA will:

a. Develop a website

b. Produce a digital and paper news letter informing the community on happenings, developments and issues.

3. To increase the membership of the EVA

4. The Hills Hub: To be actively involved in the planning and to ensure that a proper feasible management plan is developed which ensures the best use of this new facility

5. Communication /Networking: To continue to develop the Emerald Community network which will lead to better community consultation and cooperation between groups in Emerald. A network meeting to be held on October 22 in the RSL

6. Pepi’s Land: To continue being involved in the planning and implementation of the future development at Pepi’s land

7. Strategic Plan:  the Cardinia Shire and the EVA will work together to revise the Emerald District Strategy

8. To develop guidelines for signage which enhance our town

9. Housing: To continue investigating the options for retirement living.

10. Emerald Citizen of the Year and activity of the year.

A subcommittee to be formed which will determine a citizen and community activity of the year  

9. Footpaths: To advocate for the further development of footpaths in the Emerald District and for the EVA provide local input on the Shire’s list.

11. Planning and Parking: Continue to investigate, identify and monitor new developments being approved, both private and council. The provision of adequate parking is a key requirement

12. Public Consultation: The need to create more opportunities for local residents to be informed and to have input on developments and issues that affect them 13.To examine the traffic problems in Emerald.

14. To promote the need for a skate board park in Emerald
